And then now finally time to introduce our dear Rumi to you. He is a very special friend with a long story. Please sit down and take time to read the story of his life.

Rumi is a severely handicapped little boy

We got to know Rumi about 2 years ago when he was still living with his official owner in a muddy kennel without any luxury.

My colleague Muriel Dewit was taking care of an abandoned girl over there and her puppies.

All puppies are adopted. But mum was not to be catched. So Muriel goes there everyday to take care of mum. For more then 2 years. ( she did manage to catch mum at a certain point and got her sterilized. But she escaped again and Muriel keeps taking care of her)

At a certain point Rumi showed up together with mum and Muriel started taking care of him as well.

Because Rumi is severely handicapped one time someone picked him up and brought him to the vet because she thought he was hit by a car.

The vet recognized the dog and called his owner. He was angry that someone stole his dog

But did nothing to protect him.

Rumi remained on the street being cared for by Muriel……

Until the municipality was contacted about this handicapped dog on the street and the dogcatchers brought him to the municipal pound where he was misjudged and sitting in his own feces…. They called his owner again but he was not willing to pick him up anymore

And the municipality wanted to euthanise him.

That’s where Muriel stepped in, that is when Rumi came to us.

I wasn’t shure if we could keep a dog safe in our shelter in this state . I was scared the other dogs would not accept him and he would get injured on the cement floors in our kennels….

But Rumi proved me wrong!

In the beginning he could hardly walk. He was weak, injured and tired of a hard life on the streets. But he had so much will to live.

He started eating better. Healing his wounds gaining strength.Feeling loved.

At first we would carry him around to get him out of his kennel. Now he can go on a proper walk!!!

And his spirit has never been broken! He is a happy, sweat handsome and strong personality!

I wish I had his strength

So to make a long story short

We are looking for a home for this amazing soul!

A home where he will be loved and cared for like never before. A home that doesn’t feel sorry for him but admires him for his strength and loves him for the sweet and beautiful boy he is.

His joy of life would be increased a lot if he could get a home with a big flat garden in which he could run around in a little wheelchair for a couple of hours a day

I have added X-rays of his hind legs . Apparently all his joints are the wrong way around. The vets think he could be born like this or he suffered severe abuse when he was a puppy.

Let’s believe he was born like this and learned to live with his handicap.

Rumi is about 6 years old

45cm high

And last time he weight 10.5 kg . I do hope he gained a little weight in the meantime

So we are looking for true heroes

Let me know when you think you can change his life for the best

Rumi…..
