Fran. An other beautiful Portuguese Podengo.

Another one that must have had a hard life that made her who she is…. A gorgeous girl with some issues.

I explained you before that Portuguese podengos are just used for hunting , not as the wunderfull loving family dogs they are too.

They are locked up with many together in dirty horrible places usually completely isolated with no human interaction.

Most podengos carry traumas within them.

But they will florisch in a loving environment. They make great family dogs! They are usually very smart and need a lot of exercise.

But not Fran…..

I don’t know what has happened to Fran but she is damaged. She loves people but she doesn’t trust them fully and can be protective.

We solve this problem by letting Fran decide when she trust us and when not and that works perfectly fine. We offer her structure and she loves it. Fran loves to come and say hello and have a cuddle. Fran loves to get a treat and waits patiently until it is her turn to receive one ( second picture is Fran waiting for a treat in a group of 12. She is the last one to receive it)

Fran loves going for a walk. Is great on the leash and calm and following. Fran loves to go to the playpenn too. In the play Penn she likes lots of cuddles from the volunteers. She also loves to play with a stick or tuck of war with one of the other dogs.

Fran also loves her food! Mainly the pasta with meat we cook them daily but also her kibble.

The rest of the time Fran is chilling somewhere on her own. And when Fran is chilling, she wants to be left alone. She doesn’t want us to approach her neither the other dogs. She will show teeth if you try.

For me that is absolutely fine. Fran wants to be respected and we will do that.

Hopefully Fran will learn to trust us more and lower her defence.

But if not that is ok too.

So we are looking for this special person who can love Fran for who she is, respect her and grow together!

Fran is 45 cm high, 11 kg and a year and a half old more or less
