Other details:
Joli lived in a back garden on her own. Her owner went into a home to recover from an operation and had asked neighbours to look after her. We don’t know whether they did, but someone else found her and started feeding her – he did that for 8 months before contacting the authorities, who brought her to us.
Having had no company for months, she was scared and overwhelmed when she came to us and it took a while for her to relax and trust us. Once she did, she became a happy and loving girl, sweet and submissive to everyone taking care of her.
She had a large hernia that was operated on, and was adopted pretty quickly. Unfortunately her adopter was not the right person for Joli, she brought her back to the shelter five days later because Joli barked at people in a campsite. And yes, she does bark at some people, and at other dogs, although she shares a kennel quite happily with Inara. She has very little life experience and barks when she is insecure about something. She needs an owner who will give her the time – longer than five days! – and love to build up her confidence in the outside world.
We can’t be sure about her age. Our vet thought she was quite young, but her chip registration says that she is 12 years old. That could have been based on how old her previous owner thought she was though and we think she is probably younger than that, around 7 or 8 years old. Joli weighs 8kg.
